Digital Radiography

South Shreveport Animal Hospital provides the latest veterinary diagnostic technology available, including digital radiography and dental digital radiography. Digital radiography allows us to take an “inside look” at your pets and assess the status of injuries or diseases that may be present. It is extremely beneficial in helping our veterinarians diagnose fractures, determine the size and location of tumors or foreign objects that your pet may have swallowed, measure organ size to detect disease, diagnose pneumonia, discover pregnancies, bladder stones, chronic arthritis, and more.

Digital radiography is painless, safe, and non-invasive. It provides clear images of the area of concern quickly and without having numerous retakes which means accurate and efficient patient assessments. It also uses very low doses of radiation making it safe enough for pregnant females and young pets.

Digital radiography differs from traditional x-rays in that images can be visually enhanced, magnified, and digitally shared. We can now immediately share results with clients in the exam room with the click of a button, or we can send digital files to specialists, if needed, to help us speed and focus treatment plans for your pets. We can also share files with the Animal Emergency Clinic should your pet need after hours emergency care.

Our digital dental radiography makes it possible for our doctors to study dental conditions and sinus cavities. Digital dental radiography shows the tooth and bone surrounding the tooth which enables detection of abnormal changes such as periodontal disease and abscesses. This gives us the opportunity to find teeth that may be painful or that need to be extracted. If found early enough, the tooth may be saved with advanced techniques such as a root canal.
